Ways to Volunteer

If interested in volunteering or for more information, contact the Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters office at (309) 637-1771.

Be a Big Brother or Big Sister
It doesn't take any special training to be a friend and have a good time.  No talent is required to take a kid to his first baseball game or to spend an afternoon in the park.  Anybody can toss a ball, go for a walk, or watch old movies and pop some popcorn.  Anyone can be a Big.  That's part of the magic of it.  Now that you know what being a Big is really about, we hope you'll see that the time is "right now" to get started.  We're offering you an opportunity to enjoy the magic that comes from making a new friend   Click Here to Volunteer as a Big

Volunteer Board of Directors
The purpose of the board of directors is to govern the overall agency as a group or body.  Individuals act as voting members of the board with full authority and responsibility to develop policies, procedures, and regulations for the operation of the organization.  It is the responsibility of the board to monitor the organizations financial health, programs, overall performance and to provide the Executive Director with the resources to meet the needs of those the organization serves.  This requires a minimum of five hours per month which included attending a monthly board meeting and serving on at least one committee.  An initial orientation will be held for those interested in becoming a board member.  Click Here to Volunteer

Event Committee
Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters has several fundraisers and other events which require planning and implementation.  Bowl for Kids' Sake, Golf for Kids' Sake, Annual Dinner, and Christmas Party are the major events at this time.  Depending on the event, committee members help with planning, acquiring community sponsors and prizes, recruiting participants, marketing, and promotion.

Event Volunteers
Volunteer help is also needed on the days of our annual events such as Bowl for Kids' Sake, Golf for Kids' Sake, Annual Dinner and Christmas Party.

Agency Activities
Plan or assist with a group activity.  Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters looks to provide at least quarterly activity opportunities for its program participants.  There are approximately 100 adult/child matches currently in the program.  Numbers attending any given activity vary depending on interest and scheduling.

Office Volunteers
Occasionally, help is needed in the Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters office with mass mailings, phone calls, etc. Times and days vary with need.
